Tonya Blue is an educator, author, teacher consultant, and playwright. She has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Morgan State University and Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Towson University.
She realized her perception of education was obscured and learned the foundation of any good lesson is not just pedagogy, but a positive rapport between teachers and students and a positive mindset.
As a full time professor for Towson University, Tonya promotes this belief while coaching and working with student-teachers to help them prepare for the educational field. She also facilitates professional development on classroom climate, teacher retention/stress and students declaration activities. Her desire to help the whole person led her to create Inside Ella’s Closet, a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes professional attire for college students and women in transition.
Tonya wrote and played three characters in the one woman show “I AM.” The show was based on her first novel “I Am the Children I Teach" and debuted in 2016. Her second novel, "My Life is Not a Sermon" was released in June 2019. She is an avid traveler, reader, loves the theater, collects teapots and is learning to play the bass guitar. She lives with her husband Paul in Maryland.
